County Commissioner Earl Wright - District 6

Earl Wright was first elected to the Weakley County Commission in 1978 and has served since. Commissioner Wright presently serves on the Finance, Ways, and Means Committee, the Public Safety Committee, the Rules Committee, the Extension Service Committee, and the Reappointment Committee. Earl has also served on the Weakley County Democratic Party - Executive Board since 1978.
Commissioner Wright is a May 1973 University of Tennessee at Martin graduate with a M.S. / Education Guidance and Counseling and a May 1970 graduate of the University of Tennessee at Martin with a B.S. /Agricultural Education. Earl began his employment with the University of Tennessee at Martin in September 1970. He has held the position of director of housing at the University since July 1, 1978.

He is very active in his community. Commissioner Wright serves on the Safety Committee, the Recruitment Committee, and the International Program Committee at the University of Tennessee at Martin. He is also active with the City of Martin serving on the Committee on Census 2000 and as Chairperson on the Tree Board - Board of Directors. As a Martin Kiwanis Club, Earl has served as Past President, on the Committee working with Youth Essay Contest, the Program Committee (past), pick up trash along road, with the pancake breakfast, and the youth fishing derby.
Commissioner Wright provides assistance in his church as a Deacon, Ministry Support for Widows (present), an Usher - West Side Chairperson (present), Trustee Chairperson (past), and Sunday school Outreach (past Sunday School Director). He also appreciates nature and assists by planting trees for wildlife and improving wildlife habitat.
