County Commissioner John Salmon - District 1
|
John Salmon was elected to the Weakley County Commission in 1986. He has served as Chairman of the Personnel Committee and as Chairman of the Health, Education and Welfare Committee for several years. Commissioner Salmon currently serves on the Public Safety Committee, Rules Committee, and chairs the Personnel Committee. Salmon has represented West Tennessee on the Board of Directors of the Tennessee County Commissioner's Association for many years and served as President of the organization in 1997 and 1998.
In addition to County Commission duties Commissioner Salmon has served since 1993 as Vice-Chairman of the Weakley County Emergency Communications (E-911) Board of Directors. He is a member of the Advisory Council of the Weakley County Adult and Continuing Education Center, serving two terms as Chairman. Commissioner Salmon promoted the building of the War Memorial on the Courthouse lawn and is Chairman of the Committee responsible for raising the necessary funds to build and maintain the Memorial.

He is currently Treasurer of the Weakley County Arts and Humanities Council, Chairman of the Weakley County Health and Safety Standards Board, member of the Weakley County Health Council and the Weakley County Joint Economic Development Board. He is a long-time member and former officer of the Palmersville Ruritan Club.Salmon is an active Democrat and has served many years representing District 1 on the Executive Committee of the Weakley County Democrat Party. Commissioner Salmon is a member of Dresden First United Methodist Church and currently serves as Chairman of the Administrative Council.
A graduate of E.W. Grove High School in Paris, Salmon attended Bethel College and Murray State University. He is a 2001 graduate of the West Star Leadership program sponsored by the University of Tennessee at Martin.
Salmon is a Realtor with Century 21 Overton Real Estate in Martin, Tennessee and a member of the Local, State and National Realtor's Associations.
Commissioner Salmon and his wife Kay are the proud parents of three children, Tracy of Lexington Tennessee, Gina of Kansas City, Kansas and Andy of Paris, Tennessee. They also have five grandchildren: Mary Kate, Beatrice, Jack, Wally and John Evan. The Salmons reside at 273 Salmon Road in the Ore Springs Community.
