David Earl Hawks was born on June 2, 1951. He was elected to the County Commission August 5, 2010. David has lived all but two years (1963 and 1964, Paducah, KY) in Weakley County. He is the eldest son of Dayne and Monema Hawks and husband of 38 years to Katana Wiley Hawks whom he met at UTM, which he attended for two years. They have two children, Terone and Selene, and a granddaughter, Cambry.
David worked in the early 70's at the Reelfoot Packing Company before going to work for Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company in November of 1972. He retired in June 2006 after 33 and 1/2 years. He worked mostly 6 days a week at Goodyear building tires, supervising, and setting up machines.
During his years at Goodyear, David stayed active in many community and church activities. He coached and umpired Little League, Junior Babe Ruth, and Senior Babe Ruth baseball. He was also youth director for six years at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church and is presently a member of First Baptist Church in Martin.
For the last 20 years, David could be seen on the football field, basketball court or baseball field as a TSSAA official. He has been a member of the Civitan Club for two years, board member for the Work Force Investment Board, Area 11, for six years and Chairman of the Weakley County Republican Party for several years.
