Born and raised in Dresden, Tennessee, James Washburn graduated from Dresden High School in 2008 and soon thereafter left for Marine Corps bootcamp at Parris Island, South Carolina. James served four years on active duty in the United States Marine Corps infantry with 3rd Battalion 3rd Marine Regiment, stationed at Marine Corps Base Hawaii from January 2009 to January 2013. James completed two combat deployments to the Helmand Province of Afghanistan for which he received multiple personal and unit awards including two Certificates of Commendation for combat actions performed in Afghanistan, the Combat Action Ribbon, and the Purple Heart.
Upon being honorably discharged from the Marine Corps, James obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Political Science from the University of Louisville and a Doctor of Jurisprudence degree from the University of Memphis Cecil C. Humphreys School of Law. He now resides in Dresden with his wife, Audrea Washburn, and son, J. Edgar Washburn, where he works as an Assistant District Attorney General for the 27th Judicial District. James serves as a Deacon at Dresden First Baptist Church. He is an active member of the Dresden Rotary Club #3805, the Dresden Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks Lodge #2373.
As a County Commissioner, James has served on the Weakley County Public Safety Committee, Weakley County Nursing Home Board, Weakley County Ethics Committee, and the Weakley County Beer Board.
