Weakley County Election Commission
Vote Center - Summary
Vote Centers are an initiative of the Weakley County Election Commission to provide convenience in voting and create sustainable tax dollar savings related to the administration of elections. By allowing individuals to go to any location on Election Day, it is much more convenient and creates more voter turnout. Although the procedure and process changes, we have implemented over the past several years have streamlined and improved the voting experience, we feel adding vote centers will help us continue improving the voting process and encourage more voter participation. We plan to continue utilizing two Early Voting location and implement six Election Day Vote Centers. All six Vote Centers will allow the same convenience for voters as the Early Voting sites offer – any Weakley County Voter can vote at any Vote Center regardless of where they live.
What is a Vote Center?
1. A strategically located polling place where any Weakley County registered voter can go vote on Election Day. They would be able to cast their ballot at any location – just like Early Voting.
2. Every precinct ballot is available at every Vote Center location.
3. When a voter signs in at one Vote Center, every other Vote Center’s computer is automatically updated to reflect that voter as having cast their ballot.
Why Vote Centers?
1. Allows voters to vote at any Vote Center location regardless of where they live.
2. Convenience of the voter – Combined with Early Voting it allows the voter to choose which day and where they would like to vote.
3. Easier process for the voter – Use of computers makes the process easier. Currently, if a voter has a different address than we have on their voter registration record, they must complete a failsafe form and go to the correct precinct to vote. Under Vote Centers, their address will be updated on the computer just like it is with our current Early Voting system. All locations will be connected to our current voter registration system.
4. Reduced cost for conducting the election – Based on poll worker requirements alone we project a cost savings and there will be additional savings in supplies, labor, materials, etc.
5. Quicker and Less Costly Reconciliation – As voting occurs, reconciliation will be complete except for provisional voters. This will cut cost dramatically. Under the current system, election history is downloaded from our Pollbooks, data must be converted, then imported to complete reconciliation.
6. Possible increased voter turnout – We believe that Voter Centers will make voting more convenient for voters therefor encouraging more voter participation.
7. Efficiency – not all precincts have equal numbers of voters. Therefore, a precinct with fewer voters may be looking for something to do with their time on Election Day while a larger precinct may have lines of voters all day. With Vote Centers, it is likely that all locations would be somewhat consistent in the number of voters participating at each location.
